Overview of AAU and USAV

For those who are new to the game and AAU and USAV sanctioned volleyball competition, here's here is an overview of the two organizations.

AAU

AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) sponsors many sports and provides tournaments for play. The AAU season can be year round providing league play and tournaments throughout the state. The AAU Championship for volleyball is in Orlando in June.

USAV

USAV (USA Volleyball) is the governing organization for volleyball in the U.S. USAV governs the U.S. Men's and Women's National teams, adult teams, and juniors teams (that's us).

Highlights:

High level of competition open to boys and girls 10-18. Athletes compete alongside some of the nation's best.
Multiple events including local invitationals, league play, District Championships, Super Regionals and National Championchips.
Low membership fee covers more than 30 AAU sports including volleyball.
Non-exclusive membership gives athletes the freedom to compete under other sports organizations.
Secondary sports accident insurance -- up to $10,000 covers injuries sustained while participating.
Events take place at excellent facilities in great locations -- Orlando, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, to name a few.

USAV Club Code: SOFLA

Highlights:

The USAV season runs from December through May/June with tournaments throughout the South Florida region and throughout the U.S.
Teams that play under the USAV sanction can qualify for the National Tournament which is held in July.
Teams can qualify by placing in the top of their age division in a National Qualifier, i.e., Big South in Atlanta in April, or they can qualify by winning the Regional Tournament which would be our state tournament which is held in Orlando in April.
